With Eyeborg sonochromatic perception, Neil can hear colours and see musical notes. This has been an important source of inspiration for him in different kinds of artistic creativity. These range from performances and stage work to paintings and musical compositions based on the connection between colour and sound.
"The orange tree sound": a stage work with choreography by Moon Ribas, in which colour is portrayed as a feeling, movement or sound. In this work Neil tries to show the pervasiveness of colour in our reality, not perceived just visually, but also by the ear. The public explore the sound-colour world through music and dance.
"Cyborg singers": A group of singers use the Eyeborg to sing colours. This is an experiment where Neil brings colour to the melody sung by four singers, among them his mother. The singers do not follow a musical score, but rather colour projections that the Eyeborg turns into notes, which they then sing.

    Color Scores

This involves changing the notes in a piece of music into coloured boxes. Listening to classical pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and Verdi, and contemporary pieces by John Cage, Neil paints the first 100 notes of each composition with concentric boxes, starting with the innermost box so the piece grows outwards.
He does this with other pieces of music too, such as national and team anthems. He can tell you if the colours of the flag of a country correspond closely or not to the anthem.

    Sound portraits

Neil marks musical tones for the colour of hair, eyes, skin and lips on a score of 360 lines (corresponding to the degrees of the colour circle) and uses them to make a musical chord.
Since he started using the Eyeborg, Neil has expanded his repertoire with sound portraits of well-known figures such as Prince Charles, Woody Allen, Jordi Pujol, Pau Riba, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Radcliffe, Gael García Bernal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Montserrat Caballé, Bruno Oro, Màrius Serra, Carme Ruscalleda and others.

    Colour and towns

Neil goes to different towns and assigns them colours in accordance with the sounds he hears on his visit. After hearing them all, he identifies the two most dominant colours for the town.
